The evaluation

When to bring us in
A repair-or-replace decision on a legacy traction or drum machine, and the numbers have to be defensible.
You have a problem machine or sheave and need expert troubleshooting.
Resto-Mod, restoration modernization: a landmarked or preservation-bound building or machine that has to keep what it is while meeting modern safety and performance standards.
A mechanical condition question anywhere in the machine room or hoistway that needs someone who has built and repaired the equipment, not just seen it running.
An owner or a board that wants a second read before committing capital.
A consultant's specification that needs focused depth on the machine, the sheaves, or the worm & gear set.
A repair or overhaul facility that needs the work scoped before it is quoted.
What you get

An evaluation report built on the field assessment, written to be reviewed with the field techs performing the work, the board, or a vertical transportation consultant. Focused, defensible, and in plain language for all stakeholders.

Behind the report is a documented, repeatable evaluation method: measurements chosen for what is actually in the machine, read against what the experienced eye, ear, and hand know to look for. It is how experience becomes evidence.

One framework, used consistently
Acceptable
No action needed.
Monitor
Watch it, no action yet. A closer look is named, with when.
Action RequiredLow · Moderate · High · Critical
Needs work, planned rather than urgent unless stated. The report says what.
Failed / Rejected
A categorical failure condition or wear limit is reached. The finding names the criterion and the evidence.

Each rating carries a required action and a timeframe.

Measurement→Published standard→Condition rating→Recommendation

Where the chain cannot be completed, it is reported as an observation and not as a conclusion.

GroundedFindings are grounded in the technical and/or governing standards where they apply.
Self-sufficientAssessments stand on their own. No OEM data, no maintenance history, and no baseline measurements are required.
CumulativeField data is retained per asset, so a return visit produces trend data instead of a second first look.
The report

Every evaluation ends in a written report: the answer first, then the summary, the condition scorecard, and the verdict.

Pages from an anonymized sample report. Not advice about your equipment, and not for reliance.

Scope

What we do not do

No catalog.
No contract.
No bid.

We do not sell, install, or service equipment. No catalog, no contract, no bid on the work we recommend. We are not a full-service vertical transportation consultancy, and we are not inspectors. Legacy Elevator Consulting delivers standards-grounded condition assessments, not inspections.

We do not walk in favoring any verdict. Retain, overhaul, repair, replace: sometimes the answer is replace, and we say so. The machine gets a say; what to do about it is your call.

The focus is the point. It is what lets the answer be straight.
